Bluebird

This is the second piece of the travel series trio (first one was warm, wine country road, a countryside landscape painting).

My husband and I went on a slightly impulsive whirlwind trip around Europe over 2017/18 Christmas break which included a ski trip to Innsbruck.

Learning how to ski was a challenge surrounded by kids who can barely walk but can ski better than you and your “English speaking instructor” only talks in German except to say, “you understand?”.

The only saving grace was the perfect bluebird day. I took a photo during our lunch break and it was just so perfect.

#Innsbruck was such a quaint old town surrounded by beautiful #nature! Our first ever #skilesson ⛷ was on #stubaiglacier on a perfect #blueslbirdday! We skiied in blizzard like condition, snowy, cloudy and sunny in #Stubai and #schlick2000. What a way to end #2017 & welcome the #newyear! #VisitInnsbruck #skiholiday #winter

I shared the photo with my friend and after she showed me that the photo was her phone wallpaper, I decided to paint it.

Playing some tunes on my JBL speaker, intoxicating Bath & Body Works candle at my workstation, I was ready to get started:

This painting will always remind me of the whirlwind adventure my husband and I took on our first Christmas holiday together as a married couple when we put aside our fears and skiied down the Austrian slope under a perfect bluebird condition.
