Just like millions of other people in the world, I have been staying at home, way, way more since coronavirus pandemic.

Initially, I watched a lot of Netflix📺, but I have read more books (non-art book but recommend “What I Wish I Knew When I was 20” by Tina Seelig)📚,

…and painted more (like this Zadar sunset painting)

…and watched some films (like Phantom of Threads),

…added yoga into my daily practice since May🧘🏻‍♀️, video called friends and families more while working longer.

All of these seemingly unconnected things made connections just like Steve Jobs said:

“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something—your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

– Steve Jobs

It has made me realise or let me come back to my goal from last year – to learn 2D animation. 🎯

I’ve asked one of my designer friends about online learning courses and he mentioned Domestika.

About Domestika

On July 6, I found out that they offered a partial free courses as part of a #StayAt Home promotion.

The promotion ended on July 7 😳 so I devoured two courses; one about illustration and another about instagram photography.

(Note: I now realised that Stay at home promotion change up free courses available).

Both artists started with sharing artists and their artworks that influenced them.

The artist and the instructor for the drawing course, Puño, gave advice to create an “Influence File”.

If you just look at one artist and be inspired by them, you’re simply copying their work. However, you create your own style when you gather inspirations from many sources.

My first step was to create my influence file. I thought Pinterest is a good place to keep it and share it, here’s my Influence file.

I did enjoy Domestika’s online course but as most of their artists are Spanish with English subtitles, I found it difficult to focus on their visual reference and what they were saying.

For that reason, I will be searching for other online tools to learn animation.

⭐️My goal is to be able to make some form of 2D animation by the end of the year.

I will share my journey here.
